Who We Are

A lot has changed at FGC since 1925, but the core values are consistent- a church family that nurtures a personal relationship with God, welcomes the guidance of the Holy Spirit in everyday life, and encourages warm community with one another.

Rev. George Gardiner grew the church on such values, and Full Gospel Church became a landmark in Halifax’s evangelical Christian community. Riding the wave of the Mattie Crawford revival of 1925, Full Gospel was founded as an independent evangelical church that embraced the Pentecostal experience. Full Gospel was the first church in Halifax to broadcast a religious service on the radio, and continued to grow and reach out into the community and around the world. Over 90 years later, the church continues to partner with and support missionaries and ministry organizations globally.

Through moves from Park St. to Gottingen St., then North Park St. to North St., and finally to our current location on Larry Uteck Boulevard, God has directed and sustained the church. As we have nurtured a relationship with people and ministries around the world, we now see that the growing neighborhoods around us are bringing cultures and peoples from around the world to our doorstep. We welcome our new families who are bringing fresh culture, food and music from around the world to our fellowship. And we look ahead with anticipation, knowing that as we welcome the Holy Spirit to our gatherings that He will enable us to grow together in the faith!

What We Believe

We believe that the Bible is inspired by God, is infallible, and is the trustworthy guidebook and final authority on all matters of conduct and faith.

We believe in one God, who has always existed as three persons- God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit.

We believe that the historical Jesus Christ was God in the flesh, was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, exemplifying the perfect example for Christians to follow, was crucified, died, and was buried. The voluntary sacrifice of His life made forgiveness of our sins possible. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

We believe that everyone has been born into sin, and only by faith in the shed blood of Jesus can we be forgiven of our inherent sin and receive the gift of eternal life. We believe that anyone who believes in Jesus, confesses their sin and earnestly asks His forgiveness will be forgiven, and spared eternal punishment and separation from a holy God. We believe that all believers should be baptized in water as an outward sign of their inward transformation.

We believe that God the Holy Spirit is active in the world today, living in the hearts of believers, offering assurance, comfort, guidance and power for daily living, and providing divine inspiration and unity when the church comes together to worship. We believe that “speaking in tongues” is the scriptural physical sign which accompanies the “baptism of the holy Spirit” and that all gifts and manifestations of the Holy Spirit need to be conducted in an orderly fashion when we come together.

We believe that the true church is comprised of all believers around the world past and present, and is not limited to any one organization including ours. We regularly celebrate communion together to remind us of Christ’s sacrifice for our salvation. We believe that marriage is a covenant relationship between a man and a woman, and is reflective of the relationship between Christ and His “bride”, the church.

We believe that the return of Jesus Christ to the earth is imminent, and that all will be judged for their deeds when He returns. We believe that all who have accepted Him as Savior will join Him in eternal life.
